Cat Behavior?
So i have a 7 month old kitten. he was raised with his brothers and sisters (since then they have all been adopted) he is a great cat but insists on sleeping with us in bed at night – i have allergies and the last thing i want on my bedding is car hair. we have tried locking him out, leaving clothes out there everything. he claws and meows at the door all night and when we let him in, he jumps in bed with us and keeps us up all night.
does anyone have any suggestions for training?
can you train/modify the cat's behavior
we miss a full night's sleep

Well, what you have trained your cat to do is claw and meow at the door until you let him in.
One way to solve this problem is not to allow him in the room at all. Keep your bedroom door closed always. During the day you need to practice with him. Go into the bedroom for various amounts of time when he is awake and alert and preferably following you and asking for your attention. Start out with 2 minutes. They walk back out like nothing happened. Continue to increase the amount of time no matter how long he meows.
Feed right before bedtime. Before you feed actively engage kitten in lots of play activities (to wear him out). Also a nice heating pad in a favorite sleeping area outside of the bedroom may also help, but only turn it on at night so it's an optimal temp at night and not during the day.
I suggest you start on a Friday night because it will take a few days.
And yes you can train and modify any animals behavior so long as it is learned.
