Considering The Vital Indicators Of Poor Cat Health

As a cat owner it is your responsibility to ensure that everything is well with your cat. As our feline friends cannot let us know when they are unwell, you must be alert. Here are the top five indications of poor cat health.

Watch Their Behaviour

You know your own cat and should be able to notice if they begin acting a little differently. A big sign that they are not feeling good is if a usually playful cat suddenly becomes withdrawn. Or perhaps your cat begins whining or meowing when they are usually very quiet.

Loss of Weight

A cat losing weight swiftly, or over a longer period of time both suggest health problems. Although weight loss can be a symptom of various illnesses, it may be that liver problems are the cause and this needs addressing quickly.

Coat and Skin

If whilst grooming your cat you come across one or several lumps you must have it examined by a vet. They could be ticks, with larger lumps perhaps being abnormal growths. A patchy or matted coat on your cat can also indicate that it has underlying health problems.

Toilet Behaviour

If your cat begins urinating all over the house when it is well trained this is usually an indication that it has feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). If unchecked this condition can prove fatal. Another sign of FLUTD is if your cat is continually licking its genitals.

Other Visual Indicators

There are several visual indicators that you should watch out for. A sinus infection or cold is often the problem if your cat looks as though it is crying. Excessive nose discharge can also be a symptom of these ailments. A build up of dark brown ear wax can also indicate cat health is not as it should be. In the event that you notice any of the signs listed here it is vital that you arrange a visit with a vet rather than trying to diagnose yourself.
