What Can I do to keep my dog from eating out of the litterbox?

1

The litterbox is in my roommates closet, and he sneaks in there and comes out with nasty breath. We try to watch him, but we can't do it 24/7. I live in an apartment, so I hate shutting him in my small room. A litterbox with a lid won't keep him away. And the cat is the same size as him, so I can't leave just enough room for the cat to get in and not him. Any punishments or anything I can do to get him to STOP?! (I will not hit him.)

Without knowing how much space you have and how old the cat is….

Can you place the litter box up somewhere the dog can't reach but the cat can climb up to? OIC, someone had the same idea.

I think you may need more than a narrow shelf or the litter box may fall along with the kitty and that will be the end of that experiment. There are the automatic litter boxes with rakes that push the clumps into a plastic box. They aren't 100% dependable though.
