Owning a dog is one of the most satisfying experiences you can have. They give you unconditional love and companionship and never argue with you! I know some people hate how much attention a dog needs, and they prefer cats who can pretty much look after themselves as long as you keep them fed and watered, but dogs are still incredibly popular right now. Make sure you prepare properly if you are going to get a dog and you know exactly how to care for them and all the responsibilities you will have from then on, it is not fair to get one and then realize it is hard work to look after them and send them to a rescue center.

Every dog needs some training: When you first get a dog then they will be so cute and you will be able to forgive them for pretty much anything, but don't let their cuteness be an excuse not to train them as it is a lot easier when they are young. It is crucial that they are trained because if they aren't then they can and will develop bad habits such as chewing their bed to bits so you need to buy a tough dog bed, or they might bark all the time or try to bite people which would get them into serious trouble.

It doesn't cost much to train your dog properly. Often you can find classes in the evening you can attend where you learn and practice the techniques with a trainer as part of a group. As you start to apply the techniques outside of the lessons then your dog will start to listen to you and eventually do what you want without being told to.
Grooming is important: I always advise that you only take your dog for professional grooming every so often, and that you groom your dog yourself outside of those times, otherwise it is a huge cost. It is also a great time to bond with your dog so it is not something you should be getting a stranger to do. Your dog needs love too: People tend to think of pets as different to children so they don't think they need any attention and affection, but that is not the case. They need to feel connected with you and know you reciprocate their feelings, and if they don't get that then they might get sad or angry and try to get your attention by being naughty. So make sure you take them for regular walks, and that you spend some time with them every day just to talk to them and give them a stroke.
